REVIEW: Dead Label Are Back With Their Most Brutal Track Yet, ‘Deadweight’

In a thunderous hybrid of Metallica, Slipknot and Machine Head, discover why the track is guaranteed to make the Irish band your next big obsession.

When it comes to a Thrash-inspired approach to Death Metal, it is all too easy to get lost amid the hoards of new acts that attempt to stand apart from the masses. Yet, whilst many fall short of this goal, Ireland-based band, Dead Label never fail to prevail.

Since their formation in 2008, Dead Label have already formed a name for themselves across the Metal scene: featuring at events including Bloodstock and Download Festival, as well as having shared stages with monumental acts such as Gojira and Machine Head.

Now, with the release of their latest single, ‘Deadweight’, the four-piece prove that they’re only just getting started when it comes to leaving their stamp on the industry.

Erupting into action, the no-frills approach to the track delivers an immediate dose of nostalgia from some of the biggest names on the scene. From the technical precision of drummer, Claire Percival, to the thunderous, Kill ‘Em All-style riff throughout, ‘Deadweight’ instantly captures the larger-than-life energy that the band are most renowned for.

Sticking to what they do best, the simple, yet impactful structure of the song is guaranteed to turn the heads of those looking for the next big thing and generate hype for their upcoming EP, Anthology

Somewhat heavier than what we’re used to from the band, the track pushes frontman, Dan O’Grady’s, vocals into new territory. Echoing the foreboding lines, “How does it feel to know that you’re worthless?”, the single channels the passion and emotion of Slipknot into the band’s distinctive sound- showcasing their biggest influences throughout and opening them up to an even wider audience.

With its unmissable circle-pit energy and vigour, ‘Deadweight’ begins to rekindle the light of the ’90s American Metal Scene, providing the same level of intensity as could be expected by the likes of Pantera and Lamb Of God.

In its entirety, ‘Deadweight’ is the perfect new discovery for those searching for that extra punch of energy amid current, downtrodden circumstances. Although, drawing parallels to sub-genres including Metalcore, Death Metal and Thrash, the sound of Dead Label is not be be misconstrued for that of anyone else on the scene- providing a unique approach, almost impossible to replicate.
